This Stunning Marbled Tokoname Yaki Soup Bowl Has A Classic Shape With Slightly Turned Edges And Is Made Using The Nerikomi Technique Of Kneading Multiple Colors Of Clay Into A White Clay Base Made In. The Cup Is Also Decorated With A Green And Black Band, And The Dots Are Dug Out To Reveal The Marble White At The Bottom Of The Cup. This Traditional Pattern Is Called Mizutama .
Made By Hota Takumi, The Second Generation Potter Of Kengo Pottery Garden. Mr. Hotta Was Born In 1985 And Inherited His Father’S Practice Of Specializing In Yakiware.
Tokoname Yaki Is A Type Of Japanese Pottery, Traditionally From Tokoname, Aichi Prefecture, Japan. Tokoname Is The Site Of One Of Japan’S Six Ancient Kilns, Which Have Been Producing Pottery Since The 12Th Century.
Today, Tokoname Yaki Is Famous For Its Signature Brick-Red Clay, Called “Shudei”. This Clay Is Widely Used In Tea Sets And Bonsai Pots, And Its Vibrant Color Comes From Its Rich Iron Content. It Is Said That Tea Brewed In An Unglazed Tokoname Teapot Has A Richer Taste.
