This Carefully Crafted Tokoname-Yaki Handleless Teapot Is Made Of Light Brown Clay And Decorated With A Hibiscus Pattern. The Alkaline Substance In The Straw Reacts With The Iron In The Clay Body, Creating These Striking Scarlet Burn Marks. . Due To The Organic Nature Of The Process, Each Piece Is Unique.
This Piece Was Produced By Hitoshi Tanikawa. Mr. Tanigawa, Born In 1952, Is Best Known For His Work In Mogake And Hidasuki Decoration. As A Practitioner Of The Sencha Ceremony, His Products Are Designed To Be Both Beautiful And Functional.

Shiboridashi Is Made From Original Kiribako , Signed And Sealed By The Artist.
In Japanese, Shiboridashi Kyuusu Roughly Translates To “”Squeeze Pour Teapot”” Because The Teapot Is Designed To Allow You To Squeeze Every Last Drop Of Liquor From The Leaves. Similar In Structure To The Chinese Gaiwan, The Shiboridashi Is The Simplest Type Of Japanese Teapot, Consisting Only Of A Bowl With A Spout And A Lid. Although Simple, Making Good Shiboridashi Is Very Difficult. Unlike Kyusu And Houhin, Shiboridashi Does Not Have A Filter, Instead Using A Narrow Gap Between The Lid And Body To Separate The Liquor From The Leaves. In Addition, Most Shiboridashi Also Have Thin Grooves Carved Into The Spout Of The Bowl, Which Helps Prevent The Leaves From Falling Out. In Most Checkouts, The Cap Is Placed On The Lips, Just Like Kyushu And Fengyin. This Means That The Gap At The Nozzle Remains A Fixed Size. However, Many High-End Handmade Shiboridashi Do Not Have Such A Lip, So This Gap Can Be Adjusted.
Tokoname Yaki Is A Type Of Japanese Pottery Traditionally From Tokoname, Aichi Prefecture, Japan. Tokoname Is The Site Of One Of Japan’S Six Ancient Kilns, Which Have Been Producing Pottery Since The 12Th Century.
Today, Tokoname Yaki Is Famous For Its Signature Brick-Red Clay, Called “Shudei”. This Clay Is Widely Used In Tea Sets And Bonsai Pots, And Its Vibrant Color Comes From Its Rich Iron Content. It Is Said That Tea Brewed In An Unglazed Tokoname Teapot Has A Richer Taste.
