This Hagi-Yaki Yunomi Features A Beige Glaze Decorated With Pink Gohonte Spots.
Hagi-Yaki Is A Type Of Japanese Pottery From The Town Of Hagi In Yamaguchi Prefecture, Japan, With A History That Dates Back Over 400 Years Ago. Some Of The Oldest Hagi-Yaki Works Have Been Declared National Treasures Of Japan. The Natural Warm Tones Of Its Clay And The Simple Lines Of Its Forms Are Highly Valued In The Traditional Aesthetics Of Many Schools Of Tea Ceremony.
Hagi Porcelain Is Said To Improve Over Time Because The Tannins In The Tea Slowly Stain The Fine Cracks In The Glaze , Resulting In A Rich Texture, Known As ‘Nanabake’ Or ‘The 7 Transformations’. Due To This Slightly Porous Nature, Some People Prefer To Dedicate Their Hagi Vessels To One Type Of Tea, Such As Sencha, To Avoid Other Aromas Seeping Into The Clay.
