This Light Brown And Orange Bizen-Yaki Tea Bowl Is Decorated With A Hibiscus Pattern. This Traditional Decoration Is Created When The Potter Wraps A Piece Of Straw Before Placing It In The Kiln. The Alkaline Substance In The Straw Reacts With The Iron In The Clay Body, Creating These Striking Scarlet Burn Marks. .
Bizen Yaki Is Japanese Pottery, Traditionally From Bizen Province, Now Part Of Okayama Prefecture, Japan. Bizen Is One Of Japan’S Six Ancient Kilns, Producing Pottery Since At Least The 14Th Century.
Bizen-Yaki Is Fired At High Temperatures For A Long Time In A Wood-Fired Kiln And Is Known For Its Earthy Color And Lack Of Traditional Glaze Color. Since Clay Has A High Shrinkage Rate, It Is Not Suitable For Glazing. Instead, The Designs Found On Bizen Porcelain Result From Kiln Effects, Including Glaze-Like Traces Of Melted Ash And Marks Produced By Firing In A Wood-Burning Kiln.
