Made By Tatsuo Umehara , Who Made Pottery Under The Name Hokuryu , The Third Generation To Use That Name. Mr. Umehara Was Born In 1974. He Is One Of The Young Kyushu Craftsmen In Tokoname. He Inherited His Father’S Kiln In 1998 And Changed His Name To Hokuryu.
Tokoname Yaki Is A Type Of Japanese Ware. Pottery Traditionally From Tokoname, Aichi Prefecture, Japan. Tokoname Is The Site Of One Of Japan’S Six Ancient Kilns, Which Have Been Producing Pottery Since The 12Th Century.
Today, Tokoname Yaki Is Famous For Its Signature Brick-Red Clay, Called “Shudei”. This Clay Is Widely Used In Tea Sets And Bonsai Pots, And Its Vibrant Color Comes From Its Rich Iron Content. It Is Said That Tea Brewed In An Unglazed Tokoname Teapot Has A Richer Taste.
