This Pair Of Hagi-Yaki Guinomi Features A Beige Glaze And A Subtle Floral Pattern On The Waist.
Hagi-Yaki Is A Type Of Japanese Pottery From Hagi City, Yamaguchi Prefecture, Japan With A History Dating Back More Than 400 Years. Some Of The Oldest Hagi-Yaki Works Have Been Declared National Treasures Of Japan. The Natural Warm Tones Of Its Clay And The Simple Lines Of Its Forms Are Highly Valued In The Traditional Aesthetics Of Many Schools Of Tea Ceremony.
Hagi Porcelain Is Said To Improve Over Time Because The Tannins In The Tea Slowly Stain The Fine Cracks In The Glaze , Resulting In A Rich Texture, Known As ‘Nanabake’ Or ‘The 7 Transformations’. Due To This Slightly Porous Nature, Some People Prefer To Dedicate Their Hagi Vessels To One Type Of Tea, Such As Sencha, To Avoid Other Aromas Seeping Into The Clay.
