This Kiyomizu-Yaki Tea Bowl Has A Flared Lip And A Dark Gray Glaze, Heated From A Body Of Iron-Rich Red Clay. On The Glaze, The Bowl Is Decorated With White Glaze Bristles Both Inside And Outside.
Hakeme Is A Sliding Decoration Technique That Originated In Korea During The Joseon Dynasty. Here, The White Grout Was Applied With A Brush, Initially Covering Most Of The Work But Later Acting More As An Accent. On Top Of This Glaze, The Bowl Is Coated With A Clear Gray Glaze. The Hakeme Technique Is Particularly Common On Early Buncheong Vases And Is Often Used As The Basis For Further Decoration. Hakeme, Known As Gwiyal In Korean, Usually Uses A Very Thick Brush, So The Resulting Strokes Are Rough And Have A Lot Of Character.
Kiyomizu-Yaki Is A Type Of Japanese Pottery Traditionally From The Gojozaka District Near Kiyomizu-Dera Temple In Kyoto, Japan. Kiyomizu-Yaki Is A Subset Of Kyo-Yaki And Refers To All Pottery Made In The Kyoto Region, Kiyomizu-Yaki Has Been Produced Since The 16Th Century
