This Aka-Raku Chawan Has An Organic, Handcrafted Shape With Closed Edges. The Foot Circle Is Very Low, Giving A Solid And Solid Impression. Like Most Aka Raku Tea Bowls, Its Glaze Is Bright Red With Black And Creamy White Spots On The Front.

Raku-Yaki Or Raku-Yaki Is One Of Japan’S Best-Known Styles, Developed In The Late 16Th Century By The Famous Tea Master Sen-No-Rikyu. Perhaps Inspired By The Hikidashi-Guro Technique Recently Used To Produce The Seto Black Tea Bowl Style, Rikyu Collaborated With Tile Manufacturer Chojiro To Produce A New Style Of Vessel For Tea Ceremonies.

Handmade From Porous Clay Rather Than Wheel-Thrown, Aka Raku Tea Bowls, Then Bisque Fired, Glazed And Then Fired Individually Or In Small Batches At Around 700-900°C For 1-2 Hours With Black Music Is Different And Can Cool Down Slowly. The Resulting Bowl Is Extremely Light And Porous – Imperfect In Shape And Structure: An Encapsulation Of Wabi-Sabi.

Care And Usage Instructions
Due To Their Porous Nature, Raku Tea Bowls Are Ideal For Being “Soft” And Delicate. Before First Use, We Strongly Recommend Soaking The Entire Clay In Warm Water For 30 Minutes To Allow The Water To Enter And Tighten The Gaps In The Clay, And Then Allow It To Air Dry Completely. For Further Strengthening, Rice Water Can Be Used, The Tiny Grains Of Rice Help Fill In The Gaps In The Clay. Make Sure Not To Let The Bowl Soak For Too Long As The Clay May Start To Soften.

Just Soak For A Few Minutes For Each Subsequent Use. Initially, The Bowl Will Develop A Clay Smell, But This Will Disappear Over Time And With Repeated Use.

Due To Its Porous Nature, Raku Tea Bowls Can Only Be Used To Prepare Matcha And Not To Serve Any Type Of Food.
